MINERALS:
CALCIUM :
Along with phosphorus, this is one of main minerals found in
milk..
Table of calcium requirements according to age and sex (see
above):
Calcium is one of the major constituents of bone. Among other
functions it also aids muscular contraction (notably the heart
muscles) and helps blood to clot .
Our skeleton uses considerable amounts of calcium: it uses
1kg, i.e. 99%, of all the calcium contained in our bodies.
.
The human skeleton regenerates itself 4 to 5 times in one
lifetime:
Since bones are living organs, they must absorb their daily
quota of calcium in order to produce new bone cells.
Bones also store reserves of calcium: if the body
lacks calcium it is forced to use these reserves which, in
the long term, will result in a serious calcium deficiency
causing the bones to become more fragile and possibly leading
to osteoporosis.
Up until adolescence, the bodys capacity to absorb calcium
is at its most efficient: by the time we reach adulthood,
our bone reserves are fully built up. After this point, bone
breakdown (resulting from insufficient calcium intake and
the bodys reduced capacity to absorb it), taps into
these reserves at a rate of up to 2% per year: this is why
it is vital to get enough calcium and to ensure it can be
easily absorbed by the body.
70% of calcium ingested is not absorbed by the body:
The calcium contained in the milk has a higher rate of absorption
than that of other foods, thanks to its ideal phospho-calcium
combination (= percentage of phosphorus in relation to calcium;
in our milk it is 1.3 which signifies that there is 1.3 times
more calcium than phosphorus), and thanks to the presence
of lactose (milks natural sugar) which stimulates the
absorption of calcium.
Unfortunately, despite this higher rate of absorption, the
calcium is still not 100% absorbed, which can be due to several
factors, especially an unbalanced intestinal flora: this is
the part of the body where nutrient absorption takes place;
if the flora is unbalanced, the absorption will not occur
correctly.
Therefore it is important to ensure that your calcium intake
is sufficient, and to try to keep a healthy balance in the
intestinal flora.
How? Régilait has created Bifilac, a product specifically
formulated to solve this problem and to help the body to absorb
calcium:

PHOSPHORus:
A mineral, found mainly in milk and dairy products, which,
along with calcium, contributes to the development of the
skeleton and teeth.
MAGNESIUM:
This nutrient plays a major role in muscular metabolism and
maintaining a balanced nervous system.
